Speaking of conferences, you may also want to take a look at this conference being planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the publication of Honest to God.
From Honest to God
Tuesday November 19 (evening only)
and Wednesday November 20 (all day) 2013
In 1962 the Church of England bishop John A T Robinson delivered a series of lectures which were published the following year as “Honest to God”. A synthesis of aspects “new” theologies of the time, the book’s critique of traditional Christian confession precipitated a storm of controversy. Its impact continues to be felt in the church today.
This short conference will mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of this influential book. It will seek to foster dialogue between different groups on the contemporary theological spectrum around the themes and motivations of Robinson’ theological proposals.
The conference will consider Honest to God in retrospect and prospect, with particular attention to the pastoral and missiological needs of our time. It is intended to be broad in its appeal, drawing on good scholarship while at the same time seeking to enable the participation of those whose interest in the themes of Robinson is less academic. Fostering theological dialogue between different voices on the theological spectrum in the contemporary church is a central motivation for the conference .
The conference is being organised by a small group of ministers of the Uniting in Australia in association with the Centre for Theology and Ministry; we hope to be able to add other partners in this project soon.
